MEET OUR VOLUNTEERS
We love our volunteers and couldn't continue to bring the events we have to the community without them. We will feature our volunteers here, so be sure to check back.
My years of volunteering with the Maple Grove Arts Council have been a great experience! The various events have provided me with opportunities to get out into the community, meet new people, and share my excitement about all that the Art Council provides for the City of Maple Grove--concerts, art fairs, and--my favorite--the annual Student Art Show, where students are encouraged to explore and showcase their artistic talents.
My interest in art education began when I volunteered with the Art Adventure Program in Maple Grove elementary schools. Sponsored by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the program introduces students to works of art from a variety of cultures. Training is provided for instructors, preparing them to go to area schools to teach the students using props and interactive activities. The excitement and sincere interest of the students got me hooked!
Experiencing art and learning about its impact on our society and culture has also influenced my travel, hobbies and reading. My daughter, Teal (who has also volunteered with the Maple Grove Art Council!), is a Studio Art major at the University of Minnesota, so we are surrounded by original artwork in our home.
Volunteering with the Maple Grove Arts Council has provided an enjoyable and creative contrast to my work in the legal industry, having just completed 20+ years with Boston Scientific in Maple Grove.
My thanks to the Board of Directors of the Arts Council for their flexibility in scheduling volunteer shifts and for always making the volunteers feel valued and appreciated!
